I invite you to read “When Life Comes a’Knockin… Open the Friggin’ Door”, a new blog published every Thursday Morning. These short posts will offer vignettes about enjoying the full range of visitors that life brings to your doorstep of life.
Not every visitor is a welcome guest. That is why front doors have peepholes and phones have Caller IDs. However, welcome guests find opened doors. Unwelcome intruders only experience the closed door or the chance to leave a message.
This email is about welcoming life to our door when it appears as part of the mystery, our eternity, or community. We often leave these visitors at the door as soon as we know they are waiting for us. When these “visitors” show up at our door, we prefer the self-evident, the here-and-now, and companions of our choosing. We do not want to deal with the unknowns in life. They are too complicated. Contemplating eternity leads us down paths where we must rely on a slippery conglomeration of other people’s ideas rather than the natural world around us. And let’s face it, being part of a community is not always an improvement over being alone.
These visitors bring gifts that can enrich and expand our lives. They offer us, body-mind-soul, opportunities to grow in our capacities for love and trust in our relationship. They also create a more profound capacity for joy and trust in every situation in life. These gifts enable us to continue to grow regardless of our age or circumstance. Unfortunately, we must unwrap them before fully appreciating and enjoying them.
There is no preaching or exhortations. Each blog will offer a small slice of life that will demonstrate the unwrapping of the gifts that the visitors provide at our door. They will offer insights into how to recognize and unwrap the gift. I hope these simple stories will awaken new insights into the readers' body-mind-soul as they seek their good life.
The themes for the stories will be:
- The Visitors are Mystery, Eternity, and Community.
- The Gifts are love and trust, joy and hope.
- The Wrappings are patience, humility, resilience, self-knowledge, and respect.
Each week, the short story will focus on a different mix of these themes. I hope you enjoy the stories and share your thoughts and comments with the other readers and me. Please, feel free to share these with people you believe would enjoy and benefit from them.
But most of all, I hope that these blogs will help you engage the visitors at your life’s doorstep and discover the gifts they bear. I hope they will help you deal with the wrapping that surrounds them so that you may find the fullness of life as it shows up on your doorstep every day.
Peace, my friends.
